Design Focus: Clara Porset
Design focus: A series of posts all about my inspirations -people, places and products. Offering an insight into my process and a behind the scenes journey from a starting idea to the finished fabric.
1: CLARA PORSET - The mid century Cuban furniture designer blended European modernism with Mexican heritage, removing ornate details to achieve modern simplicity. Clara Porset was part of a group of politically committed architects, designers, and artists who combined modernist style with the use of local materials and techniques to create a distinct Mexican (her adopted home) post-revolutionary nationalist style. As a weaver I’m drawn to her chairs’ woven backrests which work in simplicity so well alongside the structured solid frame. Her ability to create simple form and clean lines with a beautiful materiality is genius and a real inspiration.
