Design focus: A series of posts all about my inspirations -people, places and products. Offering an insight into my design process and a behind the scenes journey from a starting idea to the finished fabric.

2: PAUL STRAND. The photographer’s use of shadow play is a huge inspiration to my weaving. The broken lines and use of monochrome light and shade bring a fleeting beauty to his work. Through translations of rough sketches, working with broken repeats and mismatched weave structures I try to bring this transient nature into my jacquard weaves - a process which is sometimes considered restrictive and repetitive due to the nature of weaving and small scale production. I believe that breaking the line creates a softened, unique and liveable fabric with depth.
